Why Nupona
Engineering Expertise.
Straight-Forward Service.
Stormwater compliance is state-mandated. What distinguishes one inspection firm from another is the depth of engineering knowledge brought to every site and what happens when a problem is found.
Inspection Reports Sealed by a Licensed PE
Every Nupona inspection report is prepared by or under the direct supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer. Our reports are sealed, legally defensible, and accepted by NC DEMLR and applicable municipal stormwater programs for permit compliance submission. You are not receiving a checklist — you are receiving an engineering document.
NC & SC Stormwater Program Certified
Nupona holds stormwater inspection certifications through NC State University and Clemson University for stormwater BMP and SCM inspection programs in North Carolina and South Carolina. These certifications support inspections performed under municipal and post construction stormwater programs and reflect specialized training in stormwater system evaluation, maintenance considerations, and compliance documentation.
Two Decades of Engineering in the Field
Our founder brings over 20 years of engineering experience to every site visit. That depth of practice means we recognize what an SCM should look like under stress, not just under ideal conditions. We have seen failed forebays, undersized outlets, and improperly maintained bioretention cells, and we understand the difference between a cosmetic issue and a structural concern.
Third Party Independence You Can Rely On
Nupona operates as an independent engineering firm with no financial stake in recommending any particular contractor or maintenance vendor. Our findings are objective. If your SCM is in good condition, we will document that. If corrective action is needed, we will explain the issue clearly and provide the information needed to address it cost effectively before it becomes a Notice of Violation.
Rooted in the Communities We Serve
Nupona is a North Carolina based firm with deep roots in the region, not a national vendor dispatching subcontractors into unfamiliar terrain. Our founder is a member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina and has spent a career understanding the land, water, and environmental systems of the Carolinas. When we inspect your site, we understand the local regulatory environment, drainage challenges, and the conditions your SCM has experienced over time.
On its journey from sky to stream, stormwater collects toxins and distributes them throughout our communities, ecosystems, and water sources. We are each responsible for nurturing our environment. The Nupona team takes care of The Stormwater Part so that you don't have to.
What We Do
Our Engineering Services
Whether you reached out about an annual inspection, a Notice of Violation, or a maintenance question — here is the full scope of what we provide.
- SCM Inspections Annual and event-driven stormwater control measure inspections for ponds, bioretention cells, level spreaders, and all permitted SCM types in NC and SC. Sealed PE reports suitable for permit submission.
- Compliance Consultation Guidance on NC DEMLR and municipal stormwater program requirements, permit conditions, and corrective action strategies. We help property managers and HOA boards understand their obligations — in plain language.
- NOV Response & Deficiency Remediation If you have received a Notice of Violation or identified SCM deficiencies, we provide engineering assessment, corrective action documentation, and follow-up inspection to close out the finding with your regulatory authority.
- Maintenance Oversight & Recommendations We do not perform physical maintenance — but we provide the engineering assessment and documentation that guides your maintenance contractor to the right scope of work, at the right time, at the right cost.
